What is MERV, and how do I know which AprilAire Filters I should use? How often should my AprilAire Filters be replaced?

MERV, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, ranks air filter efficiency. The higher the MERV rating, the better it is at cleaning your air!

The filter you choose depends on what you want to tackle in your home. Here’s a guide to help you find the right AprilAire Filters for your needs.

MERV 10, 11, or 13 AprilAire Filters should be changed annually; however, if you run your fan 24/7, check your filter every six months as it may need to be replaced earlier.

MERV 16  and 13 + Carbon AprilAire Filters should be changed every six months. While these are just recommendations, some filters may need to be changed more or less often than others.

How do I know when my filter is dirty and needs to be changed?

Replace AprilAire Filters when the color of the filter changes from bright white to dark gray. If you see dirt starting to cake on the outside of your filter, it should be changed immediately. Typically, it’s standard to replace AprilAire Filters every 6–12 months, saving you time and money compared to traditional 1-inch filters, which require replacement every 1–3 months.

It’s important to note that some thermostats can be programmed to display reminder notifications to help you know exactly when to swap out your filter. Check with your local Healthy Air Professional to learn more.

What are AprilAire Filters made of?

Our 6-inch filters are microglass, while our 4-inch filters are polypropylene.

How do I know which AprilAire Filters to buy for my air purifier?

Your AprilAire Air Purifier has a unique model number and corresponding filter number. All compatible filters are listed inside of your AprilAire Air Purifier cabinet door or you can find the filter number on the white sticker on the black rail of your current filter.

Where can I buy AprilAire Filters for my AprilAire Air Purifier?

Are there any filters that clean air better than the Model 201 or Model 401 (MERV 10) in my Space-Gard 2200 or 2400? Or are there any AprilAire Filters better than Models 210, 213, 410, or 413?

AprilAire Filters Models 210, 213, 410, and 413 have a higher MERV rating than Models 201 and 401, with Models 213 and 413 offering the highest MERV rating at MERV 13. For optimal protection, AprilAire Filter Models 216 and 416 have the highest MERV rating of MERV 16. What is the difference between the AprilAire Electronic Air Cleaner and other Media Air Cleaners?

The AprilAire Model 5000 is an electronic air cleaner. This unit uses both a media filter and ionizer wires to be MERV 16 equivalent with a MERV 10 low-resistance airflow filter.

While the Model 5000 utilizes electricity as part of the filtration process, AprilAire Media Air Cleaners do not.
