How to Clean Humidifiers for Peak Performance
1 minute readA good humidifier cleaning can help keep your unit running smoothly! To ensure your AprilAire Whole-House Humidifier is in proper working order, follow these steps to learn how to clean humidifiers.
Use a Clean Humidifier Filter
Your unit’s water panel is essential to increasing the moisture level in your home and should be replaced regularly to allow your AprilAire Whole-House Humidifier to function at its highest potential.
Check Your Unit’s Reservoir
As part of your humidifier cleaning routine, clean out your tank every three weeks with frequent use. Simply add mild soap and water to a bucket and gently scrub down the tank. Rinse it thoroughly and let it air dry before putting it back.
Take Care of Mineral Buildup
Clean any buildup from the orifice, solenoid, and other components of your unit.
Check for Leaks
Leaks and standing water around your unit indicate a problem that should be addressed immediately.
Ensure Balanced Humidity Levels
Mold and overheating can result if there’s too much moisture, while too little moisture can cause dry eyes, chapped lips, and an environment where bacteria and viruses thrive.
For optimal comfort and health, aim for a humidity level between 40–60%.*
*While balanced humidity exists between 40 and 60%, it’s important to remember that outdoor temperature and other home factors will impact what relative humidity level is attainable and recommended for your house. Talk with your AprilAire Healthy Air Professional to learn more.
